JAPS "UNCOVER »

THE INDIAN OCEAN

CEYLON THREATENED

As a result of recent events in the Far East, the Indian Ocean, it was stated authori- tatively in London to-day, now becomes "uncovered," and Japan ma be expected to attack our trade and transport in that area.

Enemy activities might extend as far as Ceylon or Darwin. With the bases the Japs have obtained they might spread eastwards to- wards Fiji, which lies to the north- aest of the New Hebrides.

Suggestions, however, that the Japcapture of Allied positions in the Far East actually reduced their lines of communication are insup- portable. All naval facilities at Singapore, Sourabaya, and Am- boina-the three Allied naval bases in the area now occupied by the enemy-have been completely destroyed.
